Paralympics team off to London

A four-member team comprising two players left for London on Friday to participate in the Paralympics scheduled to be held from August 23 to September 9.

The two players in the men’s and women’s sections will participate in the 14th edition of the differently able Olympics.

In the men’s category, Bikram Bahadur Rana will compete in the 100m race while Maiya Bishankhey will compete in the same event in the women’s category. Bishankhey set to compete on September 4 and Rana on September 7.

Both Rana and Bishankhey are national record holders in Asian Paralympics in China in 2008. Rana had recorded 12.85 while Bishankhey 17.65 in the same event.

Rana, 33, from Baitadi, who is in Nepal Police had lost his eye sight in an ambush during Maoist conflict while Bishankhey, 19, from Jhapa was born without a hand.

Similarly, coach Leela Kumar Shrestha and team manager Ramesh Shrestha are also in the team. Nepalnews.com
