‘High risk of President or Army seizing power’

Opposition CPN (UML)’s politburo member Surendra Pandey has warned that there is “high risk” of either the President or Nepal Army seizing absolute power.

Speaking at a press meet organised by Press Chautari, Jhapa in Damak on Tuesday, the former finance minister said that if the ongoing clash and mistrust between the Prime Minister and the President continues unabated – as seen in President turning down ordinances forwarded by the government – the President might use his power to oust the prime minister and pave the way for the Army to seize control.

Pandey was of the belief that the political parties should resolve the current political stalemate and end constitutional crisis facing the country to avert such a scenario.

He also urged all political parties to exercise maximum flexibility to forge consensus on disputed topics and end the stalemate. nepalnews.com
