Nehru Cup: Chemjong's marvelous saves help Nepal stave off Indian threat

Nepal held India to goalless draw in the ongoing Nehru Cup Football Tournament played at Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Nepal's goalkeeper Kiran Chemjong's marvelous saves helped Nepal to drag Indian team to a goalless draw. He was also declared man of the match and received US$ 1500.

Though Nepal played well against the strong South Asian opponent in the first half, they could not score any. However, India played well in the second half and created marvelous opportunities to goal, but their strikes went in vain due to splendid saved by the Nepali goalkeeper. Furthermore, Nepal was reduced to 10 players as Bikash Singh Chhetri was given a red card for arguing with the referee before the match went into injury time.

However, Nepal's hopes of reaching to the final round has ended despite the draw with India as Nepal had already lost its previous matches against Maldives (2-1) and Cameroon (5-0).

Now, Nepal will take on Syria on Thursday while India will take on Cameroon on Friday.

Among the five teams competing in the tournament, India is at the top of the table with 7 points while Maldives is in second spot with 6 points, Cameroon at third with 4 points, Syria at fourth with 1 point and Nepal remains at the bottom with 1 point. nepalnews.com
