Forest Ministry's 'Best Mountain Award' to three community forest users' group
The Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation has honoured three community forest users’ groups with this years’ the ‘best mountain award’.
Those awarded are Grihakot Kabuliyati Inter Group Chitrebhanjayng ( Syangja), Parbat Community Development Organization, Mudikuwa (Parbat) and Ruiniyadanda Community Forest Users’ Group ( Surkhet), according to state-owned news agency RSS.
They have received cash prize and letter of appreciation. They bagged Rs.
100,000, Rs. 60,000 and Rs. 40,000, respectively.
The award is presented in recognition of their contribution to the sustainable development of mountain region, conservation of biological diversities and improvement of livelihood of the mountain region.
Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation Yadubansha Jha presented the award to the representatives of the forest users’ groups amidst a programme organised here today,marking the 10th International Mountain Day.
On the occasion, Minister Jha said the Ministry has implemented various programmes for the sustainable development of mountain region.
Ministry’s Secretary Dr Krishna Chandra Poudel, Chief of Environment Division Bishwanath Oli were also present on the occasion.
At the call of the United Nations, December 11 every year is celebrated as the International Mountain Day since 2003. nepalnews.com
