Construction of dry port at Larcha to begin next week
The construction of Inland Container Depot (ICD) or dry port at Larcha, near Tatopani is set to begin from next week.
The construction of much awaited project is expected to ease the trade congestion between the two nations - Nepal and China, this area is the main custom point.
The construction of the dry port is scheduled to start from December 21 while Secretary at the Ministry of Commerce Lalmani Joshi and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yang Houlan jointly are set to lay the foundation stone of the ICD on Dec 20, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies.
The construction of this much-talked dry port is being started after resolving the local issues regarding the land acquisition and other technical issues that had been hindering the project for a long period.
The dry port which is being constructed through Chinese assistance will have the capacity of around 200 vehicles comprising both big and small while it will also have border inspection building, cargo warehouse and other customs departments.
Beijing Real Estate Group Company is the construction company for the project as per the agreement signed between the two nations last May.
Similarly, China has also agreed to upgrade 6.5-km road from the border to Larcha to ease the transportation of goods from China to Nepal while it has also agreed to build 112-m bridge over the Bhotekoshi river, according to the ministry. nepalnews.com
