Army chief orders officers to use bicycle or walk on foot every Friday

Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Gaurav Shumsher Rana has ordered army Generals and other officers stationed in the capital not to use automobiles to commute to and from office every Friday. The army chief's order is aimed to contribute to pollution control.

General Rana ordered the officers to either walk on foot or pedal their way to the barracks. The instruction is meant for all officer ranks, but will not be applicable for officers stationed at barracks outside the Ring Road in Kathmandu.

A day after issuing the order, General Rana came to the NA headquarters on a bicycle. A number of other officers are also known to have followed the order.

In his instruction, the CoAS, however, mentioned that officers on urgent official duty or attending meetings could use office vehicles on Friday. nepalnews.com
