Army chief to visit India in Jan

Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Gen Gaurav Shumsher Rana will embark on his maiden visit to India on January 7, 2013.

During his eight-day visit, CoAS Rana will be conferred the title of honorary rank of General in the Indian Army by India’s President Pranab Mukherjee amid an investiture ceremony on January 8, it is learnt.

Nepal and India follow a six-decade long tradition whereby the Armies of the two countries honor each other's army chiefs with the title of honorary general.

During the visit, India-educated Rana is also scheduled to hold discussion with Indian Army chief including Indian Defense Secretary and top Indian military and political leadership.

Rana took over the post of Nepal's Army chief in September after the retirement of Gen Chhatra Man Singh Gurung. nepalnews.com
