Four minors drowned while swimming in irrigation canal

Four children died by drowning while “swimming” in an irrigation canal at Phulbari-1, of Kailali district on Wednesday.

The deceased minors have been identified as Ram Bhatt, 8, his brother Laxman Bhat, 6, Govinda BK, 8, and his sister Sharmila BK, 6. The bodies of the deceased have been kept at Seti Zonal hospital for autopsy. Two others - Hari Bhat, 11, Deepa Bhat, 5 – were rescued while they were drowning and are receiving treatment at the Seti Zonal Hospital in Dhangadi in an unconscious state. Police quoted doctors involved in their treatment as saying that their condition is also critical.

The children had jumped into the irrigation ditch filled up with rainwater for swimming, but soon got drowned at around 10 am.

It was only after a farmer working in the field nearby saw the children drowning that he informed the police. Nepalnews.com
