Golfer Shiva Ram, weightlifter Pun bag 'Player of Year' title
Golfer Shiva Ram Shrestha and weightlifter Tara Devi Pun won the Pulsur Player of the Year award in male and female categories respectively during Pulsar Sports Award 2011/12 organised by Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) here in the capital on Wednesday.
Shiva Ram had won seven of the 11 golf tournament title during 2011/12 season and was the highest earning sports start in the country while Pun had won two gold medals and set two national records in weightlifting in the same year.
Similarly, based on the SMS voting, volleyball player Ramila Tandukar won the Popular Player of the Year award. Tandukar was declared winner as she got a total of 44,245 votes and beat national team footballer Bharat Khawas (38,958 votes) while cricketer Shakti Gauchan got only 24,186 votes.
Likewise, cricketer Prithu Baskota was declared the Youth Player of the Year while his coach Jagat Tamatta was honoured with the best coach award and Sharmila Lamichhane won the Para-athlete Player of the Year award.
Olympian Bhupendra Silwal, who is one of the first Olympians to represent Nepal in the world stage, was honoured with Lifetime Achievement award while Nepal Weightlifting Association (NWA) President Ratan Tandon was given a Special award for his contribution to sports in the country. nepalnews.com
