Private sector urges political parties for common economic agenda

Private sector on Tuesday urged the political parties to come up with at least a common economic agenda along with forging consensus on vital issues to end the current political stalemate.

Speaking at an interaction in the capital on Tuesday, former president of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) Surendra Bir Malakar said that political parties should anyhow accept minimum common economic agenda raised by private sector.

Malakar also urged the political parties and government to bring full-fledged budget forging political consensus to save the economy of the country.

The government should focus on employment generation along with promoting industrial sector to enhance the economy of the country rather than focusing on revenue collection only, he added.

On the same occasion, former Chief Secretary of the government Bimal Koirala stressed on the political consensus for the common economic agenda as parties are failing to forge consensus on new budget.

Koirala also said that political parties should be honest and committed to implement their previous commitments for the economic development.

He also said that the government should give priority to cooperatives for the improvement of financial sector. nepalnews.com
