SC orders govt to furnish DPR of controversial TIA mismanagement contract

The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday ordered the government to furnish Detailed Project Report (DPR) of its decision to hand over the management of the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) to an Indian company to upgrade and improve the airport's condition.

A special bench comprising justices Damodar Prasad Sharma, Sushila Karki and Kamal Narayan Das issued the order to the government following two days of hearing on a writ filed by advocates Sriprasad Pandit, Krishna Prasad Bhattarai and Bhupal Basnet.

The petitioners have demanded that the decision to hand over the TIA management to Indian company IL&FS should be scraped as it violated country's existing law and was also against the national interest.

Responding to the writ, the court had issued a show cause notice in the name of the government on Sunday. nepalnews.com
