NMA warns of nationwide strike against assault on doctors

Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has warned of strikes in hospitals across the country if the authorities failed to take action against those physically assaulting doctors and nurses on duty at different hospitals within 24 hours.

A joint delegation of NMA and Nepal Nursing Association met Home Ministry secretary Sushil Jung Bahadur Rana at the ministry and submitted a memorandum, demanding action against those involved in the assault on doctors and nurses at B.P Koirala Cancer Hospital, Asha Hospital and Chitwan Hospital in Bharatput and B.P Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan over the past few days.

Meanwhile, issuing a statement NMA said the government would have to take responsibility for the consequences of the strikes in hospitals if the demands were not met.

Services have been badly affected in hospitals where doctors and nurses were roughed up by the relatives of patients on accusation of carelessness. nepalnews.com
