Nearly 4,00,000 Nepali youths abroad looking for better employment opportunities
Due to lack of employment opportunities and political instability in the country, some 3,84,000 Nepali youths left the country in the fiscal year 2068/69 (2011/2012) for overseas jobs.
This number is nearly equal to an estimated 4,00,000 youths who enter the job market each year. However, the government says that only half of them are opting for overseas jobs.
According to Foreign Employment Promotion Board (FEPB), in the fiscal year 2068/69 altogether 3,84,198 youths left the country in search of greener pastures abroad, which is an increase by nearly 30,000 compared to last year.
In the past four year, the number of Nepali youths who opted for foreign employment has almost doubled.
According to FEPB, Qatar is still the favourite labour destination for Nepali youths. The country has hired 1,33,000 Nepali workers, followed by Malaysia (98,000), Saudi Arabia (80,000), the UAE (54,000) and Kuwait (23,000). nepalnews.com
