PM Bhattarai will not resign until consensus is forged, says Dahal

The UCPN (Maoist) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai would not resign from the post until the political parties forge consensus.

Speaking to the media at a press conference organised to disclose the decisions of the extended central plenum at party headquarters in Perishdanda, Kathmandu on Sunday, chairman Dahal said the resignation of the PM under the existing circumstances would further deepen the political crisis in the country.

He also said that PM Bhattarai would resign if the major political parties reach an understanding on the remaining disputed issues related to the constitution drafting process and the promulgation of the new constitution.

"PM Bhattarai is not the obstacle for consensus. He will resign if political parties find consensus," he added.

He also urged the opposition parties including Nepali Congress and CPN-UML not to create obstacle in army integration process.

Dahal also said that fresh election of the Constituent Assembly (CA) was the best option to give outlet to the country.

The central plenum of the Maoist party that concluded in Kathmandu on Saturday had decided to dissolve all of its central bodies and convene party's first general convention in the Nepali month of Magh (Jan-Feb 2013).

The party decided to dissolve the standing committee, politburo and the central committee, turning them into 'general convention organising committee'. The party has also dissolved state committees and district committees.

Addressing the concluding ceremony of the extended central plenum of the party Saturday evening, party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal had announced that he would leave his Lazimpat residence and hand over all his property to the party.
