Writ filed against ordinance on VIP perks

A writ petition was filed at the Supreme Court, demanding annulment of the government decision to provide lifelong state facilities to former Prime Ministers, Chief Justices, Home Ministers and Speakers.

Advocate Bharat Jangham in his writ described the government decision unlawful, arguing that President Ram Baran Yadav's approval to the ordinance on the state facilities is ill-intended as he would be one of the beneficiaries after leaving office.

President Yadav had approved the ordinance last Thursday (19 July), two days after the cabinet recommendation.

As per the ordinance, former President, Vice President, Prime Ministers, former Chief Justices, former Speakers and former Home Ministers, who were in office after 1990, would be entitled to apartment rents, luxury vehicles and "hospitality allowance" for life. nepalnews.com
