Ordinances not enough for holding polls: Acting CEC

Acting chief election commissioner (CEC) Nil Kantha Upreti has said the two election ordinances passed by the government will not be enough to conduct the elections.

Speaking to reporters in Pokhara on Saturday, Upreti said that without an amendment to the Interim Constitution conducting the elections would not be possible and that the November 22 election date should be reconsidered.

"It's a difficult situation. The constitution needs to be amended but it's not possible in the absence of the parliament. Apparently, amendment through ordinance is not possible without political consensus" said he.

Upreti said that a meeting of the EC commissioners would reveal the position of the EC regarding the elections within a few days. nepalnews.com
