NC district presidents' meet kicks off in Sindhupalchowk
The national gathering of the district presidents of the Nepali Congress began in Bahrabise of Sindhupalchowk district Monday.
Party president Sushil Koirala inaugurated the two-day meeting. Presidents of all 75 district working committees are participating in the meet organised to discuss the party's position on the key issues such as federalism and elections.
Addressing the opening function, Koirala said the party was going to hold decisive talks with the Maoists after the Bahrabise meet, as they did not fulfill to any of the commitments they made in the past. He also claimed that the party would stick firmly to the notion that the current problems could be resolved only through political consensus.
However, addressing the meeting, senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba said the party should go for reinstatement of the dissolved Constituent Assembly for promulgation of the constitution. According to him, parliamentary elections should be held after the promulgation of the constitution from the reinstated assembly.
Deuba, who has been at odds with Koirala also made it a point to take a potshot at the party leadership over the "unilateral" appointment of chiefs of different departments in the party. "Is it that we need consensus only with other parties? Don't we need it to run the party affairs?" he questioned. nepalnews.com
