CA dissolution part of Maoist strategy to capture power, claims NC
Nepali Congress Saturday made public its official view on the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly (CA) without promulgating the new constitution, describing the dissolution of the CA as a Maoists' power capture strategy.
Organising a press conference at the party headquarters in Sanepa, the NC claimed that the Maoist party intentionally created a situation for CA dissolution as the CA "was not its agenda in reality".
The NC also concluded that the Maoists used the CA only as a strategy for capturing power, NC vice president Ram Chandra Poudel said.
"Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai had consulted lawyers on the possibility of new election, a day before the CA's term expired," a press release issued by the NC said, adding, "The announcement of fresh CA election before the CA's expiry makes it clear that dissolution as a Maoist conspiracy".
Speaking in the press conference, party president Sushil Koirala also accused Maoist leaders of trying to capture power by spreading vicious rumours about other political parties their leaders. He also said only a national unity government can find a way out of the present political problem. nepalnews.com
