Announcement of fresh election meant to avert political vacuum, says PM Bhattarai

At a time when opposition parties are demanding Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai's resignation for unilaterally announcing date for the fresh Constituent Assembly, PM Bhattarai Friday said the announcement of election was necessary to avert political vacuum and prevent the country from further conflict.

Speaking at a press conference in Pokhara, PM Bhattarai said that he announced fresh election as it was only the democratic option given that the CA was automatically dissolved on May 27 without promulgating the new constitution.

He also claimed that announcement of election was in line with the interpretation of the Supreme Court's verdict. However, the PM also said that the next election will be held on the basis of political consensus. Nepalnews.com
