Head of the Asia and Pacific Division of the United Nations Department of Political Affairs, Tamrat Samuel, met President Ram Baran Yadav at the latter's office, Shital Niwas, on Friday, discussing Nepal's current political scenario.

During the meeting, Tamrat conveyed the UN's concern over the failure to draft the constitution from the CA while emphasising the need for political consensus between the parties to move forward. He said the parties should come up with clear timeline for drafting an inclusive constitution, it is learnt.

The UN envoy also mentioned that that the integration of the Maoist army combatants should start at the earliest.

On his part, President Yadav said any step he would take would be based on political consensus.

Tamrat, who arrived on Wednesday, also met Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha and the members of the Janajati Caucus (the panel of ex CA members from indigenous communities) separately today.

On Thursday, he held a series of meetings including with Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, Nepali Congress president Sushil Koirala and UML chairman Jhala Nath Khanal. nepalnews.com
