Ghazal maestro Mehdi Hassan died in Karachi, Pakistan, at the age of 84 following multiple organ failure.

Hassan, known as Shahenshah-e-Ghazal, or the king of classical singing among Urdu speakers across the world, died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Karachi. He sang hundreds of Ghazals Urdu and Hindi including playback songs that are remembered as timeless songs.
Hassan was also awarded Gorkha Dakshin Bahu in Nepal in recognition to his contribution to music. He had performed in Nepal in a concert in 2040 B.S and had visited Nepal twice later, inspiring and encouraging singers and musicians of that time for serious creation. He had stopped singing after 80s' because of illness.
He was born into a family of traditional musicians at Luna village in India's Rajasthan state in 1927. His family migrated to Pakistan at the
