Transfer of police officers against election code of conduct: EC commissioner
Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav has said the government decision to transfer senior police officers is against the Election Commission’s code of conduct. He said the EC wants the government to follow the code of conduct strictly.
Speaking at an interaction organised by Reporters’ Coub in Kathmandu Thursday, Yadav said that the government’s plan to hold fresh Constituent Assembly election on November 22 would be impossible to meet if the political parties fail to forge political consensus at the earliest possible. Hinting at the current political situation of the country, he said that election cannot be held in the present circumstances.
The Election Commissioner said that after all the legal, political and technical problems are resolved, a minimum of 120 days is still needed to conduct the elections successfully.
“It will be very difficult to conduct the election in a time frame less than that,” he said, adding that the EC has already urged the government to end all legal and constitutional hassles and forge political consensus within July 22 so as to ensure the election within the stipulated date. nepalnews.com
