UML proposes seven multi-ethnic federal provinces
CPN-UML has tabled a draft proposal for creation of seven federal provinces based on multiple ethnicity.
Party chairman Jhala Nath Khanal floated the proposal at the Central Committee meeting of the party held at its party office in Balkhu on Thursday.
The seven multi-ethnic federal provinces proposed by the party are: Kirat-Limbuwan-Koshi, Tamsaling-Newa-Bagmati, Magarat-Tamuwan-Gandaki, Bheri-Karnali, Seti-Mahakali, Mithila-Bhojpura-Janakpur and Tharuhat-Abadh-Lumbini.
The party has also proposed that the new constitution be drafted by a commission, which will then be endorsed by the new legislature parliament (to be formed after conducting an election).
The party also demanded formation of a national consensus government led by political parties other than UCPN (Maoist) and announced strong protest programmes to exert pressure on Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai to step down. nepalnews.com |
