PM Bhattarai meets artists as he continues consultations on political situation

As part of his ongoing consultations on the current political situation of the country, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai held interaction with artists from cinema and music industries on Friday.

During the discussion, PM Bhattarai denied allegations that he wanted to cling onto power. Claiming that he was committed to finding an outlet to the current deadlock, he said he was hopeful of early consensus between the parties.

Bhattarai also said he was aware of the problems facing the cinema and music industries and assured of government support in minimising the dominance of foreign cinema and checking piracy.

The artists expressed worry over the prolonged political transition and suggested the Prime Minister to take quick initiative to bring other parties into confidence. They also demanded that the government set up a trust to help artists in critical economic conditions.

Nir Shah, Ashok Sharma,Yadav Kharel, Basundhara Bhusal, Deepak Raj Giri, Jitu Nepal, Deepa Shree Niraula, Binita Baral, Ujjwol Ghimire, Shambhu Rai and JB Tuhure were among those participating in the interaction. nepalnews.com
