Road expansion drive resumes along Lazimpat-Budanilkantha stretch amid local residents' protest

The Kathmandu Valley Development Authority in coordination with the traffic police resumed demolition of illegally constructed roadside structures along Lazimpat-Budanilkantha stretch as part of the road expansion project, on Saturday.

Dozens of compound walls of residential blocks and shutters attached to the road in Lazimpat area were bulldozed amid heavy security presence.

"We are not pulling down the houses right now. We are only removing other structures along the road," Valley traffic police chief DIG Ganesh Rai, who is actively coordinating the demolition drive, said.

The locals have protested against the road expansion drive, saying that so many legally owned properties of the local residents were also being destroyed. Demanding compensation, the locals had staged demonstrations for days this week. nepalnews.com
