India to add troops along border with Nepal

India is planning to beef up its security presence along the border with Nepal from next month in order to tackle "growing security challenges".

Some 8000 Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel are being added on the borders with Nepal and Bhutan, Press Trust of India (PTI) said.

According to the security strengthening plan for the Nepal border, over the next five years, 89 new Border Out Posts (BoPs) will be created and the aim is to reduce the inter-BoP distance to 3.47-km from the existing 4.5-km, SSB Director General (DG) Pranay Sahay told PTI. There are 450 SSB BoPs along the Nepal-India border presently.

Smuggling of fake Indian concurrency, arms, narcotics using the porous Nepal-India has been a chronic challenge for the security agencies of both the countries. nepalnews.com
