PAC directs govt to expedite works of Upper Tamakoshi on time

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the legislature parliament has directed the government to expedite the construction works of the Upper Tamakoshi Hydro Electricity Project (456 MW) at the slated time frame, clearing the hassles that are delaying the national pride project.

The meeting of PAC held at Singha Durbar on Tuesday had called upon the concerned authorities related to the project following the delay in the construction works of the project by almost one year.

The meeting also directed the operating committee and concerned authorities to solve the issues delaying the project by holding board meeting within a week. The PAC also asked the government to submit the monthly progress reports of the project.

Similarly, the CA members also expressed concern over hassles delaying the national pride project and urged to complete the project within slated time frame.

On the occasion, Chief Executive Officer and Project Director Sunil Kumar Dhungel acquainted the meeting that the project has been delayed by some eight months due to lack of appropriate supply of diesel, explosive materials, among others for the construction of tunnel.

Similarly, other project officials also admitted that the project has lagged behind due to delay in the board meeting and funding problems.

The construction of 4 km tunnel has to be completed by this fiscal year while only 2.4 km is completed so far, said the officials.

The project is the first large project being constructed within internal resource based in Dholakha district. The project is targeted to complete by March 2015. nepalnews.com
