NC's former CA members challenge party decision; demand CA revival
Seventy eight former Constituent Assembly members of the Nepali Congress have challenged the party's decision to go to fresh election.
Issuing a joint press statement on Thursday, the former CA members, who account for a majority in the party's strength in the dissolved assembly, said they were shocked by the party's decision to go to the polls by making constitutional amendment from outside the parliament.
Saying that they were not against the election as such, the former CA members also reiterated their demand for reinstatement of the CA for a brief period.
Their statement comes a day after the NC central working committee officially decided to go for fresh CA election, ruling out any further discussion on the option of reinstatement of the CA.
The CWC took the decision through a majority. In the meeting, some influential leaders like Sher Bahadur Deuba, vice president Ram Chandra Poudel and Bimalendra Nidhi spoke in favour of CA reinstatement. nepalnews.com
