Nepali women expedition team to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro to highlight need for educating girl child

The members of the First Inclusive Sagarmatha Women´s Expedition Team are all set to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro (5,895 m), the tallest peak of Africa in Tanzania from 1 to 7 March, 2013.

Speaking at a news conference organised in the capital on Thursday, coordinator of the expedition team Shailee Basnet informed that they are climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro with the slogan ´educate and empower women´ with special aim to highlight the need for educating girl child.

The members of the expedition team are coordinator Basnet, Nimadoma Sherpa, Pemadiki Sherpa, Ashakumari Singh, Chunu Shrestha, Pujan Acharya and Maya Gurung. Popular South African TV actress Hlubi Mboya including two Tanzanian women are also participating in the expedition.

The team has successfully scaled Mt. Everest (called Sagarmatha in Nepal), Mt. Kosciuszko in Australia and Mt. Elbrus in Europe.

After scaling Mt Everest, the world’s tallest mountain in 2008, the members of expedition team who had announced that they will scale the tallest mountains in all seven continents. nepalnews.com
