Dolakh Bahadur Gurung |
Dolakh Bahadur Gurung has been appointed to the post of Acting Chief of Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday.
Gurung, who was working as Commissioner of the EC, is set to assume office as the new Acting Chief of EC from Thursday as the former Acting Chief Commissioner Nilkantha Upreti retired following the end of his tenure on Wednesday.
Spokesperson of EC, Sharada Prasad Trital, said Gurung has been appointed as Acting Chief Commissioner of the EC on the basis of seniority as per the Remuneration of Constitutional Body Officials Act.
However, Gurung's tenure as Acting Chief Commissioner will be short as he is retiring in mid- January next year.
With Upreti’s retirement, the EC, which has provision for four commissioners and a Chief Commissioner, is all set to be down to two commissioners from Thursday.
The EC has been running without a chief commissioner after then chief Bhoj Raj Pokharel put in his papers shortly after the CA polls. nepalnews.com
