Kartik Naach to be staged in Patan Durbar Square from today
Kartik Naach, a unique form of 17th century storytelling through dance, is being staged in the open air of Kartik Dabali, Patan Durbar Square, Lalitpur from Monday.
The annual ritual dance drama from Malla period of Kathmandu is staged for
8 days during which time dances like Batha Payakha, Yuddha kala, Devi Payakha, Jalsayeard, Baraha Avatar and Narsingh Avatar are performed, according to Hari Man Shrestha, manager of Kartik Dance Management Committee.
The dance are performed in tunes of traditional musical instrument like Jhoki, Dha, Damokhi, Jonagada, Mridanga, Jhayali, Ta, Bhusiya, Pongga and Muali.
The Kartik Naach acquired the name since it falls in the month of Kartik (October-November). It is based on Narsimha’s exploits as described on Vishnu Puran. nepalnews.com
