Mumbai terrorist attack convict executed
Ajmal Kasab, the only terrorist caught alive in 2008 Mumbai attack, was executed by hanging on Wednesday morning in the western Indian city of Pune, said local TV reports.
He was hanged at the Yerawada Jail in Pune at 07:30 am local time.
Indian President Pranab Mukherjee rejected his mercy plea on Nov. 5 before he was shifted from Mumbai's Arthur Road Jail to Pune's Yerawada Jail.
The news comes a few days after India, along with 38 other countries, oppose a non-binding United Nations General Assembly draft resolution which called for abolishing the death penalty. (Xinhua) |
