Landslides claim eight people in two days in eastern Nepal
A day after six people were killed in a landslide on Mechi highway in Ilam, two more people were killed and three others went missing in a landslide that hit a remote village in Sankhuwasabha district Monday night.
The victims have been identified as Samala Rai and her brother Pratap Rai. Their age could not be verified immediately, but it is learnt that they are children of Chakra Bahadur Rai of Dhapu VDC-8.
Three people – Chakra Bahadur’s wife Dilmaya, daughter in law Usha and their neighbor Krishna Ghimre – are missing in the incident.
The village is situated at a one-day’s walk from Sankhuwasabha district headquarters. A team of police personnel have already been dispatched to the remote landslide hit village and further details about the incident is awaited, District Police Office, Sankhuwasabha said.
This is the second landslide to hit eastern Nepal districts Ilam and Sankhuwasabha in the past two days.
