Govt promotes 10 army officials including former Bhairabnath commander
The government has promoted 10 Nepal Army officials to the post of Brigadier General and Colonel.
The meeting of Council of Ministers held on Thursday promoted five Nepal Army officers to Brigadier General and other five to the post of Colonel.
Colonel Raju Basnet, Prabhu Ram Sharma, Bijaya Dhwoj Karki, Samir Sahi and Suwarna Bahadur Mahat have been promoted to the post of Brigadier General while Baburam Shrestha, Arun Kumar Pal, Pradip Jung KC, Niraj Poudel and Santosh Dhakal have been promoted to the position of Colonel.
Among those promoted to the post of Brigadier General, Basnet has been implicated in serious human rights abuses.
Also, the United Nations human rights agency had in the past voiced its concern over government's plans to promote Basnet.
