PM Bhattarai sends letter to Malaysian counterpart requesting clemency to Ghale

Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has written letter to Malaysian counterpart Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak requesting clemency to Nepali migrant worker Hari Bahadur Ghale, who has received death sentence in Malaysia.
The letter was forwarded to Malaysia through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday.
According to the former Nepali ambassador to Malaysia Dr. Rishi Adhikari, Ghale may get pardon or restricted to life imprisonment if the court reviews the order.
The Malaysian Supreme Court had issued death sentence against him two weeks ago. He was was arrested in possession of narcotic drug in 2003 and had been in prison since then. Ghale, the permanent resident of Basunchet-1, Nuwakot had gone in Malaysia in 2001.
He was arrested by Malaysian police from his room at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur on May 30, 2003 while returning to Nepal after working there for three years.
Earlier, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), different human rights organisations, and right activists, Ghale's 83 years old grandfather Dhan Bahadur Ghale, 13 years old daughter Jharana Ghale and his relatives had requested the PM to take necessary step to save his life. Nepalnews.com
