CPN-M cadres, police clash
CPN-Maoist cadres and police personnel clashed outside the Prime Minister's residence on Tuesday.
The Maoist cadres, along with the kin of victims of enforced disappearance, were staging a sit-in in Baluwatar protesting the government's decision to promote an army official accused of gross human rights violations. At least a dozen CPN-Maoist cadres are reported to have been injured in the police action.
Col Raju Basnet, who has been accused of being responsible for the disappearance of 49 Maoist cadres detained at the Bhairabnath Battalion in Maharajgunj during the conflict, was recently promoted to Brigadier General.
The protest comes two days after a police crackdown on rights activists, who were also protesting the government decision in Baluwatar, a restricted area for protests. nepalnews.com
