'Living Martyr' Sharma no more
Ram Hari Sharma, one of the key figures in the anti-Rana regime campaign in the 1940s, who was spared by then rulers for being a Brahmin, died on Wednesday.
Sharma, 96, also known as the 'Living Martyr' had been receiving treatment at Blue Cross Hospital, Tripureshwor since Tuesday. He had low blood pressure and was suffering from respiratory ailments, RSS reported.
Sharma and some other youth leaders from the then Praja Parisad were arrested on the charge of distributing anti-Rana pamphlets to make the people aware about democracy. Although not handed the death penalty, he was confined to Bhadragol Jail.
Sharma´s aide Bishnu Nepal said the freedom fighter's last rites will be performed at the Pashupati Aryaghat on Wednesday. Nepalnews.com
