Nepali Congress president Sushil Koirala has made it clear that his party does not consider revival of the Constituent Assembly as a way of finding a solution to the protracted political stalemate.

Speaking to party cadres in Nepalgunj on Wednesday, Koirala said that seeking fresh mandate through CA elections would be the most democratic option for the parties at the moment. He said key issues of the constitution should be agreed upon prior to the elections and that the parties should start debate on them now.
The NC president also reiterated that formation of a national unity government was a must for a solution. "It is not important who gets to lead the consensus government. What's important is whether the current government paves for way for consensus," said he.
Koirala's statement comes at a time when the UCPN (Maoist) has floated a proposal for revival of the CA to promulgate the new constitution before going to fresh polls.
The NC leaders are clearly divided over the CA revival issue with senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and vice president Ram Chandra Poudel internally lobbying for it while general secretary Krishna Prasad Situala and few other leaders have publicly said the NC would not go for the revival of the defunct assembly. nepalnews.com
