Legal hurdles delay construction of int'l airport in Pokhara: Chief Secy Poudel

Chief Secretary Lilamani Poudel has said that construction of regional international airport in Pokhara was delayed due to legal hurdles.

Talking to the participants of relay hunger strike in Pokhara on Wednesday, Poudel said new agreement between Nepal and China was necessary as it was not legally feasible to proceed with the construction of the airport under the Procurement Act.

"New agreement between China and Nepal is essential to make legal arrangement to construct the airport here," he added.

He also informed that the cabinet decision was necessary for the construction of the airport saying that he would be personally supportive to the initiation taken by the people of Pokhara to construct the airport.

People from Pokhara have been enforcing various forms of protests including demonstration, sit-in and hunger strike to exert pressure on the government to construct international airport in Pokhara. nepalnews.com
