Nepal in finals of ACC Elite Trophy after defeating Malaysia
Nepal entered the finals of the ongoing ACC Elite Trophy UAE 2012 after defeating Malaysia by 21 runs on Wednesday.
Batting first after losing the toss in the semi-final match played at the ICC Global Cricket Academy, Dubai, Nepal scored 241 runs, losing nine wickets in the match shortened to 45 overs as captain Paras Khadka again shined to score 89 runs off 96 balls (which included 10 fours and 1 six).
Khadka was also instrumental in Nepal’s victory against Hong Kong on Tuesday, scoring 61 runs, which helped Nepal enter the semis.
Similarly, Sharad Beswakar chipped in with 37 runs, vice captain Gyanendra Malla and Prithu Baskot scored 34 runs each to help Nepal post a challenging target.
In response, Malaysia could only manage to score 220 runs, losing 9 wickets in 45 overs.
Nepal’s Prithu Baskota grabbed three wickets while Shakti Gauchan took two wickets to ensure Nepal’s victory against the south-east Asian nation.
With the win, Nepal will now play against host UAE in the finals. UAE entered the finals after defeating Afghanistan by eight wickets in another semi-final clash on Wednesday.
