Maoists, NC cadres clash in Sindhuli

Sindhudi district headquarters Sindhulimadi remained tense for hours Thursday morning due to clashes between the cadres of the UCPN (Maoist) and the Nepali Congress.

Confrontation ensued while the NC cadres were staging angry demonstration in protest against the manhandling of Taraun Dal central committee member Nabaraj Shrestha by Maoist cadres at Mathauli area of the Kalpabrikshya VDC following dispute over the construction of road in the area, local reports said.

A member of the Nepal Students Union (NSU) was seriously injured in the clash and has been hospitalised while few others sustained minor injuries. The UCPN (M) local leaders claimed that the protesting NC cadres attacked them, inviting retaliation. Two NSU cadres have been arrested.

Large number of security personnel has been deployed in Sindhulimadi in view of further violent confrontation. nepalnews.com
