Nepal, UAE share ACC trophy as match ends in a tie
Nepal and the host United Arab Emirates (UAE) played tie to share the trophy in the final match of the ACC Elite Trophy played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in UAE on Friday.
After the complete quota of the overs, there is nothing to separate the teams. It ends in a tie and the trophy is shared between the teams,according to espncricinfo.com.
While chasing the target of 242 runs set by the UAE losing six wickets in 50 overs, Nepal scored 241 runs to tie the match losing nine wickets in the final of the tournament.
Though Shakti Gauchan’s six in the last over regained Nepal’s hope alive to win the match, they had to share the trophy as Gauchan was out while taking second run in partnership with Sharad Vesawkar in the last ball.
Similarly, Subash Khakurel scored 55 runs, Anil Kumar Mandal 44 runs, Sharad Vesawkar 38 runs, Gyanendra Malla 32 runs, Paras Khadka 31 runs and Pradeep Airee scored 16 runs.
Likewise, Saqib Ali contributed highest of 101 runs while Khurram Khan scored 61 runs, Haroon Iftikhar 24 runs and Abdul Shakoor and Rohan Mustafa scored 20 runs each for the UAE.
Shakti Gauchan grabbed three wickets for Nepal while Arshad Ali and Ahmed Raza took two wickets each for the UAE.
Today’s match was the second encounter of Nepal with the host UAE in ACC Elite Trophy. The UAE had defeated Nepal in 2002. Similarly, Afghanistan had defeated Nepal to clinch the title in 2010 in the final match of the tournament.
Nepal had defeated Malaysia by 21 runs to enter finals of the tournament while the UAE defeated Afghanistan by eight wickets to set final berth.
