Prez, PM decide to clear away differences, misunderstanding

President Dr Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai on Tuesday held serious consultation to do away with growing misunderstanding and rift between themselves. The two also agreed to jointly find a way out of the prevalent political crisis facing the country at the earliest.

PM Bhattarai had reached Shital Niwas, the President’s Office, this morning to hold discussion with President Yadav amid growing tension between the two, especially heightened by President’s recent stern remarks against the government and its workings.

The nearly three-hour discussion between the head of state and head of government concluded after the two reached a mutual understanding not to increase conflict and misunderstanding among themselves and heighten the existing political crisis by making any public remarks against each other, it is learnt.

On Monday, President Yadav had made it clear that the dissolved constituent assembly "cannot be resurrected at any cost". He also said that that the Maoist-Madhesi coalition government cannot find a solution to the current deadlock and that there should be a national government inclusive of the Nepali Congress and the UML.

Similarly, two days before that, on Saturday, President Yadav had said at a programme organised at Tribhuvan Army Officers’ Club that as the guardian of the constitution, he cannot remain a mere spectator to what is going on in the country.

In response, PM Bhattarai had said that the President, by virtue of being a ceremonial head-of-state, has no authority to make remarks critical of the government or its decision. nepalnews.com
