Indian assistance of NRs. 42.78 m for construction of culverts, drainage in Sarlahi
India has provided a grant assistance of NRs 42.78 million for the construction of culverts and drainage for the Malangwa Municipality in Sarlahi district under Nepal-India Economic Cooperation Programme.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed Tuesday between the Embassy of India, Kathmandu and Malangwa Municipality in Sarlahi District to this effect.
Over the years, Malangwa Municipality has witnessed increasing urbanization and significant growth in its population. As a result, the existing drainage and sewer system of the Municipality, which is inadequate and dilapidated, has not been able to effectively deal with the problem of waste management and sanitation. It has also resulted in a substantial increase in the incidents of water-borne diseases in the area, according to a statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu to inform about the grant assistance.
Under the project, the Municipality would carry out the construction and maintenance of drains and culverts in different wards, which would bring about a qualitative improvement in the lives of the people, the statement added. Nepalnews.com
