NC may go for CA revival if May 15 agreement implemented, says NC leader Mahat
Nepali Congress Central Working Committee member Prakash Sharan Mahat on Thursday said that his party might go for reinstatement of the Constituent Assembly if the parties show readiness to resolve constitution-related disputes based on an understanding reached among the parties on May 15.
Speaking at an interaction in Kathmandu, Mahat also accused some leaders of his own party of advocating for CA revival due to the temptation of getting prime ministerial post.
"Our party is open to discuss on both options- giving rebirth to the dissolved CA or holding fresh election. But other parties should be ready to settle the disputed issues related to the constitution on the basis of previous understanding," he said.
The three major political parties, UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and UML together with the Madhesi Front had reached an understanding to adopt 11-province federal structure along with mixed governance system, determine names of the state by elected state assemblies and adopt a bicameral parliament with the 371-member Lower House (House of Representatives) and 60-member Upper House on May 15.
However, the CA was dissolved without promulgating constitution as parties failed to implement the understanding. nepalnews.com
