Son defeats squash champ father to lift title
Amrit Thapa, 17, defeated his father Hira Bahadur Thapa, Nepal no. 1 squash player to lift the men´s singles title of Open Squash Tournament held at the Satdobato Squash Academy on Saturday.
Amrit played 12-10, 7-11, 11-7 and 11-9 with with the father, the previously unbeaten champ since 1994, in the final of the tournament.
Hira had defeated Prabin Singh Kansakar 16-14, 11-4, 11-3 in the semi-final while Amrit defeated Sudip Bahadur Singh 11-6, 11-7, 11-7.
With the win, Amrit bagged Rs. 11,000 while Hira received Rs. 7,000 as prizes. Similarly, Kansakar and Singh received Rs. 5,000 each.
In the women’s singles round robin league, Hira’s daughter Krishna Thapa defeated Chitiz Gurung to lift the title. Thapa defeated Gurung 11-7, 11-0 and 11-0.
With the win, Amit received Rs. 5,000, runner-up Gurung Rs. 3,000 and second- runner up Nilima Malla Rs. 2,000. nepalnews.com
