NC prez Koirala insists on polls, Paudel on CA revival
Top leaders of the Nepali Congress have made contradictory remarks over the fate of the dissolved Constituent Assembly, signalling that they are still divided over the issue.
While party chief Sushil Koirala said that his party's Central Working Committee was preparing to formally decide to go for fresh election, NC Vice-chairman Ranchandra Paudel held that reinstating the constitution-making body was the best way forward.
Reviving the CA is not an option, Koirala said addressing a programme in Nepalgunj. Party leaders are still pushing for its restoration because NC has not made a formal decision to go for polls, he stated adding that such a decision would be taken soon to settle the issue for good.
“It is not appropriate to insist that there is no alternative to fresh elections. If anyone oppose CA reinstatement, they should also be able to give its proper alternative,” Paudel told mediapersons on Friday itself.
He made it clear that NC Central Working Committee has not formally decided on going for fresh election or reviving the CA.
The remarks come as party leaders Paudel and Sher Bahadur Deuba have been pressing for revival of the CA. nepalnews.com
