CPN-Maoist has floated the name of the party´s General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa for the post of next prime minister.
A meeting of the party’s central committee at party headquarters in Buddha Nagar on Monday announced Thapa as their candidate for the post of new PM.
The party also claimed the leadership of the new consensus government to be formed after the incumbent Baburam Bhattarai –led government steps down, arguing that the government led by the party alone can end the political and constitutional stalemate that ails the country.
During the meeting, the top leadership of the party including party chairman Mohan Baidhya, Netra Bikram Chand, Dev Gurung demanded PM Bhattarai’s resignation at the earliest to pave the path for the formation of a national consensus government. They argued that if Thapa, who belongs to ethnic Janajati community, becomes the new prime minister then there was possibility of parties reaching consensus to end the problems facing the country. nepalnews.com
