Three women arrested while trying to smuggle narcotics

In yet another instance of gangs involved in drug trafficking in the Nepal-India border using women to smuggle drugs, three women were caught smuggling narcotics substance in India.

A team of Seema Surakcha Bal (SSB), India’s border security force, arrested Tulsi Basnet, 35, Devisara Basnet, 26 and Lalsara Basnet, 30, of Naubasta-7, Banke in the bordering town of Rupaidiya for smuggling in over 4 kilograms of hashish and other narcotics through the transit point on the Nepal-India border last week.

Indian police said the confiscated contraband is worth over Rs 6 lakh in the international market. It is learnt that Lalsara and Tulsi are sisters while Devisara is their sister-in-law.

The three Nepali women were used by gangs involved in drug trafficking presuming that they will be subjected to less checking at the border check posts. They have been detained at Rupaidiya Police Station and are awaiting trial.

Following the arrest, SSB is expected to intensify security checks and frisking of women at the border check points. Nepalnews.com
