Police officer commits suicide

An officer of Nepal Police committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in Gokarna on Tuesday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Basanta Thapa, 39, had left his house at 5 pm Tuesday following a family dispute. He was later found by his family members hanging from a branch of a tree near Indrayani Temple in Gokarna jungle the same night.

DSP Thapa, who had been working at Armed Police Force Battalion No. 1 under the Nepal Police in Maharajgunj, also left a suicide note near the incident site from which police have deduced that he committed suicide over family dispute.

His body is currently in TU Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj for postmortem. nepalnews.com
